Civil War Christmases, Lincoln at the Library
Civil War Christmases
For Americans, there was little “peace on earth” on the Christmases of 1861, 1862, 1863, and 1864. But even as the Civil War raged, the holiday was celebrated in soldiers’ camps and civilian homes North and South and in the Lincoln White House. Join us at the Allen County Public Library’s Main Library, Meeting Room A, on Sunday, November 11th, for the Lincoln at the Library program “Civil War Christmases.” Lincoln Librarian Jane Gastineau will describe those wartime celebrations and explore how, despite the war, the new Victorian Christmas traditions captured the imaginations and hearts of Americans.

The Lincoln at the Library program series is sponsored by the Friends of the Allen County Public Library and is free and open to the public.
